Labels can be both helpful and/or reductive; we each have too many pieces of our identity to be reduced to one simple label. The I Am necklace displays eight different labels (Woman, Artist, Philosopher, Disabled, Wife, Sister, Daughter, Friend), each ready to be flipped or turned to reveal another layer of identity, each describing a different role or layer of the maker's identity. I Am is a series of photo-etched copper plates, hanging with sterling silver chain segments, suspended from a series of copper and silver tube hinges, strung through with a sterling silver ball chain and custom clasp.
